Latley I have been cramming for the ACT. I wish I could afford a personal tutor to help me with some things that many people fear including me on the ACT. So thought that I'd seek out resources on the web to help me out, though they are't that one on one instruction that can be key in understanding, I've come up with some ways to help prep for the ACT without a tutor.
1.) Go on youtube
There are hundreds of excellent videos giving tips and strategies to help you out and it's basically like having a tutor only on a video, best part is ITS FREE!
2.) Get an official ACT Prep book
You can find these at most book stores or online for anywhere from $15-$30 still better than $30 an hour. They offer every thing you could think of that would help you on the ACT including every subject.
3.) Ask your friends for help
If you have some friends who have taken the test, ask them what to expect, tips, traps, strategies they used. If you have a myspace or other social networking account ask for help from everybody on your network theres bound to be some nerds willing to help!
4.)Simply take the test
The best way to learn is by actually taking the test. You can take the ACT as many times as you want so don't get down if the first time you take it you don't do very well. Look back on what you did wrong, what you did right, and critique yourself to find out what you need to work on for next time.
Hopefully these tips can help you out
be sure to check back often!
